Earth Blocks UK is a Cornish company through and through. We pride ourselves on the fact that we are the only company in Cornwall manufacturing cob bricks and cob blocks and the only company in the UK manufacturing shaped cob blocks and cob bricks.
At Earth Blocks UK we source the purest soils from all over Cornwall ensuring crucial clay content is present and that the soils are free of contamination from construction waste, historic mining impurities and the like.
There are no artificial hardeners, cements or lime components in any of our cob blocks or cob bricks. Cornish clay soils, Cornish barley straw and Cornish water (+ 23 years of experience) they represent a truly natural, sustainable product.
Our operations are located in mid-Cornwall where we mix the cob, manufacture the cob blocks and cob bricks and (naturally) dry them.
Our cob bricks and cob blocks can be used effectively internally or externally in a variety of situations from simple cob repairs to new-build projects. Our cob blocks and cob bricks in Cornwall can also be used for garden/landscape buildings or a one-off feature.
So….how did this all come about?
I have been actively involved with cob in Cornwall for over 25 years www.thecobspecialist.co.uk.
Practitioner (still practicing), Cob Surveys (still surveying), Cob Advisory (still advising) and bystander to bad practice (still observing).
The idea and availability of cob blocks has been around for many years and Earth
Blocks UK hasn’t (or isn’t) trying to re-invent the wheel here. There are various types of ‘cob’ block available across the country…some of which are adequately usable.
However, there are some out there that are not fit for purpose.
My aim with Earth Blocks UK is to introduce a product/s that is structurally effective, thermally efficient and can save time, money and materials at the installation stage and thereafter. Equally, our standard and/or shaped cob bricks and cob blocks [of varying sizes] can considerably reduce the unnecessary volumes of historic fabric ‘lost’ when repairs to historic cob walling are dominated by a ‘one size fits all’ product. In addition, and with our appropriate cob bricks and cob blocks on site, the need to ‘cut to suit’ is eliminated.
