DIY Pizza Oven (1200mm) – Assembly Guide (un-plastered)
Our 1200mm diameter cob brick pizza ovens deliver a greater cooking surface area and are ideal for large gatherings, parties, groups etc. Described below is how to build your cob brick pizza oven with a pictorial guide to make the construction process a lot smoother….and a lot more enjoyable.
Getting started
Step 1
Lay out in a circle all 12 earth bricks for the 1st course. This can be done ‘dry’ to ensure that the correct external diameter of 1200mm is achieved. Now draw an outline around the oven base with chalk…..don’t forget to leave an opening for the oven door (approx 350mm).
Step 2
Pour a full bucket of water into a wheelbarrow and slowly add your dry earth mortar…stirring and mixing well as you go (using a shovel is good for this). When the mortar has the consistency of rice pudding it’s ready to use.
Step 3
Starting at the oven entrance, bed each earth brick (with a handful of mortar) to the oven base…..and continue working your way around until you reach the other side of the opening. Mortar between the earth bricks as you go.
Step 4
Follow steps 1-3 for all courses
